Press and starch all fabrics prior to cutting. Use a scant 1/4" seam.
12" finished block
From fabric 1, cut:
{A} (1) 4.5” square
{B} (2) 5” squares
{J} (4) 2.5” squares
{G} (8) 2” squares
From fabric 2, cut:
{B} (2) 5” squares
From fabric 3, cut:
{C} (2) 1” x 7.5” rectangles
{D} (2) 1” x 8.5” rectangles
{F} (4) 1.5” x 1.5” squares
{G} (8) 2” squares
{H} (1) 1.5” x 7.5” rectangle
{I} (2) 1.5” x 3.5” rectangles
Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each of the (8) 2” light squares. With a light and dark 2” square right sides together, sew ¼” on both sides of the diagonal line. Cut apart on drawn line. Press towards dark. Trim to 1½”.
Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the (2) 5” light squares. With a light and dark 2” square right sides together, sew 1/4” on both sides of the diagonal line. Cut apart on drawn line. Press towards dark. Trim to 4½”.
Arrangle half-square triangles, 1 1/2” dark squares, and 2 1/2” light squares as shown. Sew units together to make bear paws. Make 4. Each will measure 3.5”.
Arrange bear paws, 1.5” x 3.5” rectangles, and 1.5” x 7.5” rectangle as shown. Sew units together.
Add 1” x 7.5” rectangles on both sides. Add 1” x 8.5” rectangles to top and bottom.
Arrange the large half square triangles, white 4.5” square, and your bear paw block as shown. Sew units together to complete block.
