Press and starch all fabrics prior to cutting. All seams are ¼” scant.
12" or 18" finished block
12-INCH BLOCK
From fabric 1, cut:
{A} (4) 2.5” squares
{B} (6) 3” squares for HST
{C} (4) 2.5” x 4.5” rectangles
From fabric 2, cut:
{A} (4) 2.5” squares
{B} (2) 3” squares for HST
From fabric 3, cut:
{B} (2) 3” squares for HST
From fabric 4, cut:
{B} (10) 3” squares for HST
18-INCH BLOCK
From fabric 1, cut:
{A} (4) 3.5” squares
{B} (6) 4” squares for HST
{C} (4) 3.5” x 6.5” rectangles
From fabric 2, cut:
{A} (4) 3.5” squares
{B} (2) 4” squares for HST
From fabric 3, cut:
{B} (2) 4” squares for HST
From fabric 4, cut:
{B} (10) 4” squares for HST
Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of the Fabric 3 squares. Place the square of Fabric 1 right sides together with a square of Fabric 4. Sew ¼” away from each side of the marked line. Trim apart on the line and press. Trim to square. See chart below for the directions for the fabric combinations and HST trimming based on block size you are making.
12” BLOCK (trim to 2½” square)
FABRIC 1 + 4: make 12
FABRIC 2 + 4: make 4
FABRIC 3 + 4: make 4
18” BLOCK (trim to 3½” square)
FABRIC 1 + 4: make 12
FABRIC 2 + 4: make 4
FABRIC 3 + 4: make 4
Join blocks units as shown. Trim the block to 12” or 18” unfinished block size.
